Concentrate on perfecting one item at a time. Practice drawing lips, and then eyes and noses (not necessarily in that oder). Noses are tough. It'll come before you know it. My drawings are by no means perfect but take a look at the eyes in the sketch I uploaded (called in your face). Its rough but its a good closeup to serve as an example. Don't worry about the rest of the pic. The point of the exercise when I drew it was eye practice. Eyes can change a picture immensely.
It can help to look a other techniques to get ideas, but learning by trial and error allows you to develop your own technique based on what you see working when you draw and how you interpret it. Learning from books turns you into a clone of another artist. Art is about your expression and seeing how it evolves and devlops with each picture, so keep up the good work.

Be constructive in your drawing, draw a 'frame' of sketchy lines to make sure the eyes, mouth etc are at the right place before you go shading.
Keep it up!
